Hello Fellow Hunters, I wanted to send out this note before things get too late and some folks begin to get into the last minute dynamics of figuring out what they would like to do. Here are some quick items to know for the beginning of the year. January is the beginning of Tag Application Season. We begin with 2 really big states and species to apply for and they are both what I consider "Must Apply" for states. If you want to get an really solid Elk hunt on the books in the next few years, both states can give you some amazing experiences. Wyoming is the first on deck. The Elk applications in Wyoming opened up on Jan 3rd and close on January 31st. In Wyoming, when we apply, you will need to pay up front for your entire tag plus processing fees. East 2 West Hunts offers clients an option to "float" the tag price for a small fee and this keeps your $700-$1200+ in your pocket while we incur the interest for a few months on our credit line. As of right now, based on the data that I have been digging into, I believe that we're looking at a 4-5 point need to just draw a general tag. This would be a point creep of 1-2 points, year over year, depending on where we officially land. With this information, it means that if you do not have points built in Wyoming, you'll need to get involved ASAP because the longer you are out of the game, the harder it will be to get tags in the future. Arizona is second on deck. The due date for applications of Elk+Pronghorn is February 14th. Arizona has the opportunity where you could draw a tag randomly and also getting a tag as the top point holder. Last year, we had clients that drew some great tags with very little points on the randomized portion of the draw and that is amazing! Arizona works a little different than Wyoming in regards to up front costs. You will have a $160 non-resident license that will be purchased before even applying. Then, the units, seasons, dates, weapon of choice, etc will be selected and submitted. The ultimate goal is for clients to build up points for years to come. This will greatly help you land some special hunts in the future while also being able to get out in the field and learn, experience, harvest and share memories with friends and family now. It all is a part of what we call a "Tag Application Strategy."
